Droid Voicesย

I want droid voices for my vacuum cleaner robot!

I love my vacuum cleaner robot. Originally from China (yes, it's a Roborock), and altough he has a female voice, we've been affectionately calling him "Robo" and referring to "him" ever since we've got him. I've tried out some of the available voices (back then when I was still serious about learning Spanish ๐Ÿฅฒ). But in the end, I've always returned to its German, female voice. It's nothing special. As a matter of fact, Robo's personality is very down to earth, very serious, very robot-like (trying to sound as humanly as possible, which led us to anthropomorphise him right from the beginning).

Every once in a while, we consider Robo's behaviour rather sassy. The other day, for instance, my girlfriend wanted to have it clean our flat. Usually I'm the one doing it, and since she's dealing with him less, he "revolted" and asked to reset its Wi-Fi connection. The first thing that came to my mind when she told me this was "he just needs time to get used to you". Then, immediately after, I had to think of another rather sassy robot that I've taken into my heart recently: Rogue One's K2.

Some of my most beloved snappy remarks include:

  • You're giving her a blaster? (K2 being very offended when Jyn Erso gets a gun)
  • You know the likelihood of her using it against you? (K2 going on about how offended he is)
  • Jyn Erso half-accidentally shooting another K2 unit in combat, when suddenly the friendly K2 appears right behind it: Did you know that was not me?!

I love K2. And I thought that it would be so very cool to have my very own Robo use one of the Star Wars droid's voices. Can you imagine: A C-3PO Robo voice, so very annoying and know-it-all? A R2-D2 voice, friendly beeping and chirping away? A BB-8 voice, heart-warming and wholesome? And aren't there so many more beloved robots that come to mind?

Bender from Futurama, HAL9000 from Space Odyssey, ROB64 from Star Fox 64, and so many more? If you can think of a way to hack my Roborock to use selected sound samples of droid voices, feel free to let me know.
