niqwithq.com

My personal website.

About niqwithq.com

I've always wanted to have a website that represents who I truly am. In 2023 I made this dream become reality.

Design

When I built my personal website, I took inspiration from my favorite design tool Figma and websites like Designer Slack Communities and Gumroad.

What they all have in common is a user interface design style called "Neubrutalism". It's characterized by strong outlines, bold typefaces and distinct user feedback upon interaction, such as hover effects.

I designed niqwithq.com all by myself. I had some support from my gorgeous girlfriend Sophia. She always had an open ear when I asked her about layouting and color choices. She also used her magical drawing abilities and helped me transform my logo into a keyboard key.

Development

I built my personal website using NextJS, a popular React framework. It's hosted on Netlify.

In the beginning of 2023, I decided to give the official NextJS guide a go. By no means am I a full-fledged developer. I'm just a simple guy who knows his way around computers and was committed to make his dream become true.

I built niqwithq.com all by myself. I had some support though:

  • Shout-out to my co-worker Petro. He was really invested when I had some issues with the web fonts I use on this website. Also, he optimized my RSS feed. Thanks to him, the actual content of my posts is available directly in the feed.
  • Shout-out to my co-worker Mario. He helped me with my "skip to content" link. I had some CSS issues that apparently only he could fix. When you use the keyboard to navigate my website, my logo will hide and the "skip to content" link appears. focus-within and Mario made that possible. A dream team!
